Translation of DNA code into protein
When the mRNA gets out into the cytoplasm it attaches to a ribosome. The ribosome moves along the length of the mRNA translating the code into protein. As the ribosome moves along the mRNA reading the code, amino acids are added to the polypeptide chain. Other ribosomes attach to the mRNA and move along its length synthesising protein. This enables a large number of polypeptide chains to be assembled from one mRNA strand. When the ribosome comes to the end of the mRNA strand it falls off releasing the complete polypeptide chain.
