Equilibrium

Acid - Base

At a temperature of 25oC the concentration of hydronium and hydroxide ions are equal.
[H3O+] = [OH-] = 10-7M

In acidic solutions the concentration of the hydronium ion increases
[H3O+] >10-7M

while the hydroxide ions decrease in concentration
[OH-] < 10-7M

In basic solutions the concentration of the hydroxide ion increases
[OH-] = 10-7M

while the hydronium ions decrease in concentration
[H3O+] < 10-7M

The value of [H3O+] at 25 degrees Celsius can range from a value of 10M, in the case of a 1M HCl solution(strong acid), to 10-14M in basic solutions such 1M NaOH solution(strong base
