Chemical reactions -a quantitative investigation.

Part C

Part C

Add water to the reaction mixture obtained in part B.

  • Heat the contents of the beaker, but, make sure not to boil the solution.

Boiling makes the black copper oxide (CuO) precipitate so fine that filtration is excessively long.
  • Heat the beaker until all the blue Cu(OH)2 disappears and is replaced by black CuO.
  • Filter and wash the CuO.
Make sure not to lose any of the copper oxide residue on the filter paper

1) Describe the product formed.

2) Is this product water soluble? Explain.
