Nitrogen

Nitrogen is an inert gas that makes up 78 percent of the atmosphere. The tyres of modern aircraft are pumped up with nitrogen gas because it is light and does not support combustion in the event of a fire.

Despite the fact that nitrogen is so abundant, in the atmosphere, plants and animals can not use it in its elemental form.

The triple bond between the two nitrogen atoms is very strong and this causes nitrogen gas to be relatively un-reactive

Nitrogen is an important element and without it life on Earth would not exist. Proteins are formed from compounds that contain nitrogen called amino acids. All living organisms depend on proteins for their function and or their structure is formed from protein.
