More energy transformations

Not all exothermic reactions release their energy in the form of heat. The GlowStick shown on the right is an example of an exothermic reaction where energy is released as light. This type of exothermic reaction is known as Chemiluminescence. Chemiluminescence occurs when the exothermic reaction produces molecules with electrons in an excited state. As the excited electrons return back to ground state energy is released in the form of light.

Bushfire in the Australian bush.
The Australian bush is well adapted for bushfires. The eucalyptus oil in the leaves of the Australian native plants is extremely combustible. Its chemical potential energy is quickly transformed into heat and light energy.
