The chemical recipe

Stoichiometry is another name for chemical recipe. This chemical recipe is written in shorthand method known as a chemical equation.
Just like a recipe tells us how much of each type of ingredients to add to make a certain food, the chemical equation tells us how much of each reactant (ingredient) is needed to form a certain amount of product (food).

One teaspoon of coffee and two sugars make one cup of black coffee

The picture above describes the recipe of how to make one cup of black coffee.
If we represent the teaspoon of coffee as "TC", the teaspoon of sugar as "TS" and the cup of black coffee as "CBC", then we can write the recipe as an equation
TC + 2TS --> CBC.

The recipe of how to make a jar of biscuits is pictured above. If we represent 1kg of flour as "F", 1 litre of milk as"M", 1 egg as "E" and the jar of biscuits as "B" then we can write the recipe as an equation.
