How to make a bell

On the right is a picture of a bell constructed from an electromagnet.

Click to see a video of the bell.

How this bell works is shown on the right. When the arm is horizontal the circuit is closed and current flows through the electromagnet. This attracts the arm onto the electromagnet. The circuit is broken at the right time and a spring pushes the arm back to its starting position only to close the circuit again and cause a current to flow through the electromagnet and therefore attract the arm. The smashing of the metal arm onto the electromagnet causes the sound.

Explain how the bell works using an electromagnet?

The elastic band provides the tension to automatically close the gate. Metal contacts that complete the circuit and cause the light to glow when the gate is shut The light indicating if the gate is open or closed An electromagnet that activates the lock The bolt that is lifted through a screw eye by the electromagnet The gate
