Circuits
Using the software Crocodile Clips or wires, ammeters, voltmeters and light bulbs, construct the following circuits.

 1) A circuit is constructed using a 9V battery, an ammeter and a 9v light globe, as shown on the right.
a) What is the purpose of the ammeter?

b) What is the reading on the ammeter?

2) An extra light globe was added to the circuit in experiment one above.

a) What is the reading on the ammeter now?

b) Describe the brightness of each globe.

3) Place a second ammeter in the circuit as shown on the right.

a) Does the electrical current change as it moves though this circuit?

b) What happens when one light globe fails?

4) Now place a voltmeter across the terminals of the light globe.

a) What is the reading on the voltmeter?

5) Now place a second voltmeter across the terminals of the other light globe, as shown on the right.

a) What is the reading on each voltmeter?

b) What is happening to the voltage put out by the battery? Click for information on voltage.

6) Connect two 9V light globes, a 9V battery, and 3 ammeters as shown on the right.

a) What is the reading on each ammeter?

b) Compare the brightness of each globe and investigate what happens if one light globe fails?

c) Compare the current put out by the battery in experiment 2 above. Will the battery last as long as in experiment 2? Explain

7) Now connect the circuit shown on the right.

a) Measure the voltage cross each light globe.

How does it compare to experiment 4 above?

8) Connect the circuit shown on the right.

a) record the readings on each voltmeter.
a) V1
b) V2
c) V3

b) Compare the brightness of each globe.

9) Connect the circuit shown on the right

a) Record the reading on ammeters:
A1
A2
A3
A4

b) Is the current recorded by ammeter A1 as high as the current by the same ammeter in experiment 6 above? Explain

10) The teacher asked Jonathon to indicate on a circuit where he should connect a voltmeter. The teachers response is shown on the right.

Why is this wrong?

11) Three 1.5V cells are connected in series. What is the reading on the voltmeter?

12) Six 1.5V cells are connected as shown on the right? Which light globe should be connected in order for it glow with maximum brightness? Keep in mind that if the voltage is too high the bulb will fail.

13) Six 1.5V cells are connected as shown on the right? What is the reading on the voltmeter?

14) Five 1.5V cells are connected as shown on the right? Which light globe should be connected in order for it glow with maximum brightness? Keep in mind that if the voltage is too high the bulb will fail.

15) Using five 6 volt batteries wire them up so that you can power the following items to their full capacity. Keep in mind, if the voltage is too high the item will fail. The first one is done for you. Keep in mind, since this is an assignment, there are no solutions given.
