Set up the apparatus as shown on the right. Place the balloon over the unopened bottle top. Fill a measuring cylinder with water and invert it over a deeper reservoir of water as shown.
Without shaking the bottle,
open it by turning the cap while inside the balloon. Place the other
end of the gas collection apparatus in the measuring cylinder.
As the gas escapes it is collected in the measuring cylinder and water
is displaced. The volume of gas can be calculated by reading the measuring
