When a ball is placed in an air stream as pictured on the right it is sucked into the funnel and held very tight by the air. It is hard to understand why the air flow does not simply push the ball out like a cannon. Explain this phenomenon. In your explanation indicate the high and low pressure areas created around the ball.

Conduct this activity and find out if other shaped objects move into the air stream as this ball has done. Explain your observations.

In the Orbiter air must be removed at a certain rate. If this rate increases the possibility exists that astronauts can suffocate.Design a special valve for the Orbiter that will shut down the air flow if it gets to high.
