Step 1 Identify
the two objects that are interacting. In this case it is the cannon ball
and the cannon.
Step 2 The action and reaction forces can be stated in this way.
Action is the
force exerted by the cannon on the cannon ball.
Reaction is the force exerted by the cannon ball on the cannon.
Both the action and reaction are equal in strength. The cannon moves only
a metre or two backwards because it is heavier that the cannon ball.
