Assembly of the speed racer Winding the wire to form the armature |
Unwind each of the three loops of wire carefully so that no kinks form. Place a cardboard cylinder or rolled up paper inside each loop as shown on the right before unwinding the wire this will prevent kinks forming in the wire. Slowly unwind the wire as you loop it over the iron core plates. |
Place the first loop so that the start of the wire protrudes at least two centimetres above the iron core plates, as shown on the right and wind clockwise. It is worth using some sticky tape to fasten the start of the first loop of wire to the shaft so that it does not become covered as the wire is wound around the iron core plates. Allow 2 cm of naked wire at the end of the first loop and wind the second loop of wire to the first as shown on the right. Click to see a video. Continue to wind clockwise on the next segment. Remember to always wind clockwise around the iron core plates. When the third loop of wire is fully wound onto the iron core plates twist the naked end onto the first wire that was sticky taped onto the shaft. |
Continue until all three loops of wire have been wound on the iron core with the three naked ends of twisted wire exposed and protruding from the end plate with smallest axle insert (A), as shown on the right. |
You have now completed the armature. |
