Using levers in models
Black box
Construct the following black boxes.
Task. 1 The lever on the right is pushed in 1cm and the lever on the left is pushed out 3 cm.
Task 2 The lever on the right
is pushed in 1cm and the lever on the left is pulled in 3 cm.
To
construct the black box exercises, follow the instructions below.
You
will need the items pictured on the left.
Toothpicks, balsa wood, icy-pole sticks (pre-drilled), stanley knife, black cardboard and glue.
Step
1 Using the balsa wood, glue the frame as shown on the right.
Step
2 Using the toothpicks design the lever system that will work for the
specific task.
Step
3 Cut the toothpick and apply a little glue to the ends to prevent the
icy-pole sticks from sliding off.
Step
4 Place the lever system inside the balsa frame as shown on the left.
Step
5 Place the cover on the black box.
