Earth's bleak fate
from extraterrestrial devastation. |
|
It is no secret that Earth will one day be inhospitable to human existence. There are many factors, both long term and short term that act to ensure Earth's bleak future. Short term concerns range from human activity, which have far reaching impacts on global climate, to depletion of our resources and our ability to sustain the growing human population. | |
Long term, our planet is vulnerable to the ever present risk of asteroid impact. Earth is no stranger to collisions with extraterrestrial objects and such impacts have wreaked global havoc and caused mass extinctions throughout Earth's history. Global change and resource usage are manageable and even the threat of asteroid impact has a low probability, but the death of our Sun spells the death of planet no matter what we do. So the Human race faces many obstacles and if we are going to overcome them we must explore our universe for solutions. |
