Camouflage
One of the most impressive masters of deception Is the
Australian spiny leaf insect (Extatosoma Tiaratum). It is perfectly
disguised as chewed gum
Leaves. Its legs resemble, in colour and shape, half eaten gum leaves.
It stands very still on leaves and sways from side to side when the wind
blows as if to mimic the behaviour of leaves moving in the breeze. The
female of this species has very small wings which are useless for flying.
Their bodies are very large and thick when compared to the male, which
has large wings for flying and is relatively smaller in size.
