Conflict of War

Arquebusier

Arquebusier were riflemen, of the 16th century, who used the smooth bore predecessor to the musket called the arquebus. Arquebusiers and musketeers depended on bodies of pikemen, soldiers which carried very long spear like pikes, to defend themselves from cavalry charges. The musketeers and arquebusiers also carried swords for fighting hand-to-hand. However, their firearms were usually used as clubs in melees.

The arquebus had a reload of 1 to 2 minutes as compared to the musket which had a longer time for reload. The arquebus had a lower muzzle velocity and could not always penetrate the armor worn by soldiers.
