Hide the solution
For a fair test to be conducted
all balls must be dropped from the same height. It is not a fair test when
we drop a soccer ball from three metres and a squash ball from 0.8 metres.
So tests 2, 4, 5 and 8 should be considered.

the solution
Since Stephen's aim is to find which ball has the most bounce, conducting
the experiment in a hot room will not make his test any fairer. Since all
the balls are subjected to the same temperature makes this a fair test.

What is the aim of Stephen's tests? Which four tests should Stephen
use so that a fair comparison can be made between the four balls?
Explain. What are
the variables that should remain constant for all tests in Stephen's
experiment?
Irene suggested
to Stephen that his tests are unfair and that he should conduct his
experiment during a hot day because the balls will bounce higher. Comment
on this suggestion. |
