Kaleidoscope

We can have fun with reflections from a plane mirror. Reflecting an image from one mirror into another creates the many wonderful patterns the one can see when looking through a kaleidoscope.

Kaleidoscopes are easy to make and to start we will need the items shown on the right
Using a ruler divide the plastic mirror into three equal rectangular parts Cut the mirror into three equal rectangles.
Separate the three sections so that they are 1 mm apart and place a piece of tape across all three as shown on the right.
Fold the taped mirrors into a triangle prism and insert them into the tube.
Place coloured objects into the clear screw capped container and insert it into the tube as shown. Place the eyepiece on the other side of the tube as shown on the right.
The completed kaleidoscope should look like the one shown on the right.
